Assume you are living in 2050, 72% world's population lives in urban areas. Projections show that urbanization combined with the overall growth of the population could add another 0.5 billion people to urban populations within the next 2 years.
Worldwide, most countries want people to migrate to small cities. Think of an application to facilitate their move. The ones using your solution will be citizens of large cities, they are looking for a new place and have a variety of needs: school for children, a quiet place for online meetings, a new job in the same or different industry field, and between other needs.
This case was designed for a job application for Senior Product Designer at rocket.chat. If you want to talk more about this case, send me an email at: gablisboa1@gmail.com
1
Understanding similar apps;
2
Create an architecture for navigation;
3
Design and Prototype;
4
Document and Share.
This step of the process it was realized for finding some similar apps that already has features for this public developed and ruining at market.
In my research, I focused on collect how is the user journey is these apps, and what features are provided in these apps. This list is composed for two apps:
The main concept in a city lists is offering to the users a channel to observe places to live, save preferences and understanding conditions to live in some place.
This app is a kind of community created for users to users.
Defining a navigation architecture is an important step in organizing the list of requirements for the app. It will help users easily find and access the information and features they need, and it will also make it easier to develop and maintain the app.
In this part of the process I created in a mind map structure for how a new app can be organized, behind the analysis in other apps we can assume that one possible architecture can be composed for these modules. Here is an example of how the navigation architecture for the web app might be organized:
So, with this architecture, I can define how each section of my app will work and create an interactive prototype for this.
With theses paths of knowledge, it was possible to iterate in the process and create an interactive prototype and some visual definitions for the app.
The name for the app was defined being: Nomadism: The ultimate guide for those seeking to live in small cities around the world.
And the flows are created using Figma, you can see the interactions with this prototype using the preview behind:
The main goal of creating an Onboarding experience is to identify the user’s preferences and create modules to provide recommendations for them.
This data collection will also be used to conduct research for the app and help in defining a more accurate app persona.
Users can search for and discover cities, analyze guides created by other users who live or have lived in different places. It is crucial to conduct tests on this page with real users to gather insights and make content improvements.
For basic account management, users have a Profile Section to access these resources.
As part of the design process, I crafted a straightforward Style Guide to expedite the case delivery and ensure consistency across interfaces. This guide covers basic elements under "Styles," such as Typography, Colors, Shadow, and Radius.
Additionally, Figma-specific components were established for essential components like Logo, Icons, Buttons, Input fields, Progress Bar, Chips, Search bar, Input List, Avatar, Cards, and Testimonials. This minimalistic guide serves as a quick reference for maintaining design coherence and expediting the development process.
For a better organization in the design process and in the prototype, some documentation for Style Guide and a basic documentation was created for this case.
This case study was developed fictitiously as a technical test for a Senior Product Designer position, for which I was not selected. Nevertheless, it undoubtedly serves as an example for other processes and individuals interested in getting to know my work. Despite being a simple task, several hours were invested in it for the sake of my personal and professional development. All interviews and presentations were conducted in English, prompting me to prepare extensively for its delivery.
